Week 52: Icy

Here it is! The 52nd week of my themes. I finally did it. One year of themed work outfits.

I’ll still have another post after this, where I do some kind of retrospective and also do a week of my favorite outfits from the year. But this is a milestone post. 52 weeks. It’s been real, folks!

I chose this theme just because of general weather. We’re into the winter season now. Ironically, the weather was great this week, but whatever. Still wanted to focus a week around icy and cold feels. Most of my outfits are cool-toned, gem tones, etc. And I used a lot of jewelry to evoke icy vibes. I hope that comes through!

Bonus Week: Casual Work wear

Hello everyone, we’re getting near the end of my 52-week run, and this week was the week of New Years’ Eve, so it was both a short holiday week and a completely empty office for me.

I wanted to go ahead and do some casual looks at work, but I didn’t really have a theme. I figured I would post about this week anyway, just so you guys can have some insight into the type of stuff I’d more likely wear if my workplace was more casual.

In my opinion, this week isn’t that different than other weeks. I’ve already slowly been transitioning into more casual looks over the last year as I’ve gotten more comfortable in my role, and I’ve exercised some conscious choices to make work looks more casual and “me” for my own sanity.

But this week presents multiple jeans looks, so it’s definitely more casual than any other week of work I’ve done before. Hope you enjoy!

This is probably my favorite outfit from the week. I’m very into this jean cut and style right now.

Thursday

I originally had a pair of loafers I was going to wear with this outfit, but I walk to work every day, and I had these sneakers with me. I decided to just keep the sneakers on. Not sure how well they go with the outfit (they clash a little with both the blues of the top and the pants), but it definitely was a casual fit.

Week 51: College Professor and blog guest

Hello! This week I decided to dress like a college professor and to dress the college professor in my life. Jack’s workplace is actually very casual, so most of his looks won’t be super fancy. For the most part, Jack doesn’t have a ton of clothing and a lot of the clothing is very similar. I tried to use pieces with different silhouettes and fits to try and make each outfit unique.

This was very fun for me, and I hope you all like it.

I will try and include the brands Jack is wearing, too.

I regret how I did Jack’s fit on this day. The shirt should definitely have been tucked into these pants.

Week 50: Post-apocalyptic, but professional

Just to be clear, I didn’t make this up. I did not invent the concept of post-apocalyptic fashion. It’s been around for a long time. It was probably most recently popularized in the last two decades, but it’s been around for much longer than that. If you’re interested, seriously, just check out Kanye’s fashion Brand “YEEZY” Season 1. It’s amazing and a perfect example. Think about Mad Max, Resident Evil, the Book of Eli. These movies really hit on this zeitgeist. More examples here, here, here, here, and here (basically anything from a Rick Owens collection).

Some of the tenets of this trend include: neutral color palette (or all black), mixing natural and synthetic materials, layering, lots and lots of pockets for food and weapons and all the stuff you’ll need in a nuclear wasteland.

Now, there’s a lot of overlap between some of these looks or tenets and something like cyber-punk or streetwear fashion. I tried to focus this week specifically on the components that feel more geared towards the darker, grittier, less tech-focused post-apocalyptic realm.

Hope you like!

Note: The timing of this week was weird. I was sick and had some days off. So I spread these outfits out across two weeks, and I have no idea the day I wore any of them.

Week 49: Cardigans

In continuation with last week’s embracing of cold weather, I wanted to do a week with some of my favorite cardigans. Hope you guys enjoy!

Also, I had the flu for a long time, so this was only a 4-day week for me.

Tuesday

Wednesday

I recognize that this outfit is very similar to the outfit from Tuesday. I didn’t realize I was doing this until it was too late. But whatever, I still like the colors and silhouettes.

Week 48: Boots

Hello all, in order to celebrate the very, very, VERY short fall we seem to have here in Atlanta, I wanted to dedicate a week to boots! So this week was entirely focused on boots that go with professional outfits.

It was only a four day week.

I also did a secret little bonus thing where I wore the same necklace every day this week. I got it from a stall in the Chelsea Market when I was in NYC a couple years ago. I’ll say this now so I don’t have to list the necklace on every outfit.

Monday

Tuesday

These boots are great, but I bought them like 5 years ago, so I have no idea what the brand is.

Wednesday

I love this one because it’s a strange combination of prairie and goth styles? It’s so weird, and I really like it.

Week 47: Halloween Costumes

Hello! It’s Halloween week. I love Halloween. This week, I tried to do costumes that would kind of work as work clothing. Obviously, this week is a little more flexible than pieces I would usually put together, but that’s the beauty of Halloween! You really can get away with it this week.

Hope you all enjoy. This was a very fun week for me.

Monday

I’m Mary Poppins, y’all!

Rosie the Riveter! Very empowering outfit.

Wednesday

This was a modern take on Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Audrey Hepburn has always been an inspiration to me, so it was so much fun to try and recreate this look, even if I didn’t have the sweet sweet gloves or cigarette holder.

Hell yeah. Today I was Jane Goodall. She was such a role model to me growing up. I even brought my little monkey to recreate this picture

Friday

This was my attempt at Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls. It’s a little difficult because of her insane little cartoon feet and giant head. But I think I did an okay job for remaining human and not letting it get too ridiculous.

Week 46: Halloween

This was the week before Halloween, so I wanted to dedicate a whole week to celebrating the spooky, fall feel of this holiday season. All my outfits follow a generally consistency spooky color palette. Hope you enjoy!

Monday

Monday is comfortable and witchy.

Week 45: Seasons

Hello all, it was a four-day work week so I decided to dedicate my outfits to celebrating the seasons. Hopefully it came through.

Tuesday

Starting off with winter. I think the colors here exemplify icy coldness. Which isn’t exactly what I experience during winters in Atlanta, but it’s certainly applicable in other states.

img_20191015_180854

Dress: J.Crew, Cardigan: Vintage, Shoes: Antonio Melani

Wednesday

This is my interpretation of Spring. I know it’s usually associated with florals and pastels, but I sort of love the earthy beginnings of Spring, right after the final freezes melt. So I consciously chose a more muted palette, then added the bright teal necklace as a pop of color to indicate the change.

img_20191016_173936

Top: New Look, Pants: Asos, Blazer: Ann Taylor, Shoes: Calvin Klein

Thursday

This is summer. I’m not really a super fluorescent color person, but I do love the bright contrasts that are usually associated with color, so I paired the white and black top/blazer and then incorporated this colorful abstract floral pencil skirt. I think it evokes summer pretty well!

Friday

I am an autumnal goddess. Fucking deal with it.

Week 44: Novelty Prints

Hi again, all! This week was about novelty prints. I brought out my funnest prints for this week.

Monday

Check out these dope kitties

Love these palm trees. Also I just got back from the beach, so I am SO tan and this top really shoes it off.

Top: , Pants: Vetta, Shoes: Adrianna Papell

Wednesday

This is a shirt for traveling. It’s very soft and has just a bunch of forms of transportation and also inexplicably cups of coffee? I’m not sure why, but it makes me love this shirt.

Thursday

Check out my pretty pink birdies!

Friday

Look! It’s another bird shirt. I apparently like bird shirts. One extra special thing about this shirt is that it has POCKETS. And as all women will know, that is an amazing detail.
