Week 35: Outfits based on songs

Men won’t stop writing songs about women in dresses. Just like.. all the time. Have you noticed? This week, I’m basing my outfits on songs.

Here are my songs:

Devil with a Blue Dress- Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels

Black and Yellow – Wiz Khalifa

Red Dress – Motion City Soundtrack

Long cool woman (in a black dress) – The Hollies

Short skirt, Long Jacket – Cake

I believe it’s pretty clear the inspiration for each outfit.

Monday: Devil with a Blue Dress

This song talks about a woman wearing pearls and diamond rings. I purposely chose a kind of jazzed up necklace to match the feel of that lyrics. They also mention her wearing an alligator hat. Not only do I not own one, I’m not entirely sure what that is? So I probably didn’t perfectly match the song with this outfit.

Tuesday: Black and Yellow

As Wiz Khalifa so eloquently states in the song: “I’ma bumble bee lit up like a Christmas tree”. This is my only song that is not specifically a man writing about a woman in a particular article or articles of clothing. But because of the name, it felt very appropriate to use for this week’s theme.

Wednesday: Red Dress

There are actually several songs called Red Dress. And several songs about women wearing red. I could have chosen any number of songs to relate back to this dress appropriately. I chose Motion City Soundtrack’s song because I like them. That’s the primary reason, really.

Thursday: Long cool woman in a black dress

The Hollies even state the height of the woman this song is about. She’s 5’9”. I come in just barely under 5’9”, but I’m going to count it and say this song fits me and my outfit perfectly.

Friday: Short Skirt, Long Jacket

One of the things that I like about this song is that the lyrics actually speak to the personality of the woman it’s about. Lots of songs I looked at for this week’s theme were 100% about what a specific woman was wearing and how she looked. Cake is very into this lady’s brain and boss power which I really enjoy.
